When you try to connect Point of Sale to QuickBooks when running end of day or a financial exchange, you see one of the following errors:
- Point of Sale is unable to open QuickBooks
- Error code 140025: Point of Sale was unable to open your QuickBooks Financial Software company file
How to fix it
Intuit recommends the following 3 solutions for this problem. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try all 3. For best results, perform the solutions in the order shown.
Solution 1: Be sure the right file is open in QuickBooks and the correct preferences are set
- Open QuickBooks and make sure the correct company file is open.
Note:
Press F2 in QuickBooks to verify the company file location.
- Verify that sales tax has been enabled:
- Choose Edit > Preferences > Sales Tax.
- Click the Company Preferences tab. Across from Do you charge sales tax? be sure Yes is selected.
- Verify that Inventory has been enabled:
- In the left pane of the Preferences window, select Items & Inventory.
- Be sure inventory and purchase orders are active is selected. Click OK.
Solution 2: Create a new Windows user
- Click the Windows Start button, and in the Search field, enter User Accounts. Press Enter.
- Click Manage another account.
- Click Create a new account, and name the new account Test. Choose Administrator as the user type.
Note:
If you’re having difficulty creating a new account, or would like to learn more about creating new Windows users, see Microsoft’s article Create a user account.
- Sign out of Windows. Then sign in as the user you just created and try the exchange again.
If the issue persists, try toggling your User Account Control (UAC) settings off and then back on.
Solution 3: Turn off the UAC preference
- Click the Windows Start button, and in the Search field, enter User Accounts. Press Enter.
- Click Change User Account Control settings.
- Click to clear the Use User Account Control preference. (In Windows 7, slide the bar to the bottom of the window toward Never Notify.)
- Click OK and restart when prompted.
- Try again to integrate POS and QuickBooks.
Important: We do not recommend leaving UAC off indefinitely, although toggling it off or lowering the setting sometimes helps to resolve integration issues between Point of Sale and QuickBooks. If these steps resolve your issue, we recommend returning your settings to what they were.
