How do I unlock QuickBooks Point of Sale to a higher level?

This article describes the procedure of unlocking your existing QuickBooks POS license to a higher level. It works for unlocking QuickBooks POS 9.0 Basic to Pro, and Pro to Multi-Store. For the QuickBooks POS 10.0 it works if you need to unlock from Free edition to Basic or Pro level (not on trial basis) and from Basic to Pro.

The first thing you need to know is that this feature is only available for the current version of QuickBooks Point of Sale and the previous one. For products older than that you will need to upgrade your QuickBooks POS software.

The easiest way to unlock to a higher SQU of QuickBooks Point of Sale is to go to the Help menu and follow the prompts from there. On the other hand, if you have license number, product code and validation code try to uninstall/re-install the program. If you still are having trouble, these steps may help:

NOTE:   Depending on your operating system you may or may not have the (x86) at the end of the Program Files folder name and file names/paths may vary slightly. These file names and paths are from Windows 7.

1.  Uninstall your current version of QuickBooks Point of Sale and restart the computer.

2.  Delete the following folder:
C:Program Files (x86)IntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 9.0 (or 10.0)

3.  Delete the contents (not the folder itself) of the folder:
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesIntuitEntitlement ClientV5.0 (or V6.0 for version 10.0 POS)
NOTE: If you have a QuickBooks financial program installed on this same computer, it may need to be reinstalled after this step.

4.  Delete the following folder:
C:UsersAll UsersIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 9.0 (or 10.0)

5.  Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer again.

Now you should be able to install QuickBooks Point of Sale using your new licensing information without any problems.
