Error 1334: The file [filename] cannot be installed because it cannot be found .

When installing, updating, or repairing  QuickBooks, the following error occurs:

  • Error 1334. Error writing to file [file name]. Verify that you have access to that directory.
  • Error 1334. The file cannot be installed.  Insert the QuickBooks CD and retry

 

Why this is happening

This error may be caused by a missing or damaged QuickBooks installation file or corrupted .NET Framework.

How to fix it

If you are using QuickBooks

Intuit recommends 3 solutions for this problem. Try solution 1 or 2, depending on when you encountered the problem. If that doesn’t work, try solution 3.

Solution 1: If you get the error while launching or opening QuickBooks

  1. Find and open your QuickBooks company file. It has the file extension .qbw.
  2. Double-click the company.qbw file.

Solution 2: If you get the error when updating or repairing QuickBooks

When repairing or updating your QuickBooks installation, you may encounter: Error 1334 The file cannot be installed.  Insert the QuickBooks CD and retry.

 

What you can try now

If you receive Error 1334 while repairing or updating your version of QuickBooks, you will need to perform a Reinstall using a Clean Install.

If you are using Point of Sale:

Intuit recommends 2 solutions for this issue. The first solution may solve your problem, or you may need to try both to resolve the issue. For best results, try the solutions in the order shown.

Solution 1: Repair Point of Sale

  1. Insert the Point of Sale installation CD into your drive. If the Installation window opens, close it.
  2. Repair Point of Sale.

If this does not resolve the issue, try solution 2.

Solution 2: Uninstall and reinstall Point of Sale

  1. Uninstall Point of Sale.
  2. Reinstall Point of Sale.
