Error: QuickBooks application with invalid certificate, when initiating a Financial Exchange QB POS

When attempting to set up integration between Point of Sale and QuickBooks, you see the following message:

QuickBooks application with invalid certificate. An application with an invalid certificate has requested access to the following QuickBooks company file [company name]. The application calls itself QuickBooks Point of Sale. Certificate info: the certificate is invalid.

This message is followed by:

QuickBooks Point of Sale does not have permission to access the company file you specified.

Why this is happening

Digital signature components may be damaged.

How to fix it

  1. Search for QBPOS.exe located in:
    • Version 2013: C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 11.0
    • Version 10: C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0
    • Version 9: C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 9.0
    • Version 8: C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 8.0
    • Version 7: C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 7.0
    • Version 6: C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 6.0
    • Version 5: C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 5.0
    • Version 4: C:Program FilesIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 4.0
    • Version 3: C:Program FilesIntuitQBPOS
  2. Right-click QBPOS.exe and select Properties.
  3. Click the Digital Signature Tab, and ensure Intuit, Inc is selected in the signature list and click Details.
  4. In the Digital Signature Details window, click View Certificate.
  5. In the Certificate window, click Install Certificate.
  6. Click Install Certificate.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Restart the computer and open both Point of Sale and QuickBooks.

Note: If the error persists, uninstall and reinstall Point of Sale and repeat the above steps.
