Installing and receiving errors about Microsoft .NET Framework

When installing Intuit QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions, Premier or Pro products, there are times when errors will occur. One of the most common errors involves a message indicating that a third part component could not be installed called the Microsoft .NET Framework.

The version of the Intuit QuickBooks program will make a difference as to which Microsoft .NET Framework is shown in the error. There can be other issues with operating system on the computer. The operating system, Microsoft Windows 7, Vista or XP, can make a difference as to which of the Microsoft .NET Framework files are shown in the error message.

With that all said…

There are a few ways to try to fix these issues. The best way, and it does not always work, is to download the QBInstallTool.exe file, (684 KB), from Intuit. When asked to Save or Run, save the file to your Desktop. Once the file is downloaded, go to your Desktop, double-click the file and run.

If this tool does not work, there are alternatives. These involve each operating system addressing the Microsoft .NET Framework issue in a different manner.

Microsoft Windows 7, Vista, and Windows 2008 Server Operating Systems

Note: With Windows 7, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 is installed as part of the operating system. You will not be able to remove or repair this version. Uninstall all other versions, except Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5, if this program is shown, and then run the System File Checker. Please follow the steps below in the order given.

Note: With Microsoft Vista and Windows 2008 Server operating systems, Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 is installed as part of the operating system. It is not possible to remove or repair this version. Uninstall all other versions, except Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, if this program is shown, and then run the System File Checker. Please follow the steps below in the order given.

  1. Go to Control Panel
  2. Open Programs and Features
  3. Locate the Microsoft .NET Framework installations, (yes) there could be several, and remove all of the installations, except Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 or 2.0, (depending on your operating system), if it is shown

Note: Before moving onto the next steps, make sure that a copy of the Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Vista, or Windows 2008 Server operating disk is available. During the System File Checker process it may be necessary to insert the disk for completion.
