We have heard of some folks having trouble installing QuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0 Basic or Pro when they have installed the Free level of the program on that computer. Often times they are getting the message that another version already exists even after uninstalling the Free version and are not allowed to continue with the installation. Here are some steps that we have had success with in this process. Any data you have entered in the free version will still be there and can be accessed again after completing these steps.
NOTE: Depending on your operating system you may or may not have the (x86) at the end of the Program Files folder name and file names/paths may vary slightly. These file names and paths are from Windows 7.
1. Uninstall the Free version of QuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0 and restart the computer.
2. Delete the following folder:
C:Program Files (x86)IntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0
3. Delete the contents (not the folder itself) of the folder:
C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesIntuitEntitlement ClientV6.0
4. Delete the following folder:
C:UsersAll UsersIntuitQuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0
5. Empty the recycle bin and restart the computer again.
Now you should be able to install QuickBooks Point of Sale 10.0 Basic or Pro without any problems.
